It might have been naive of me to think that our hike and bike trail near my office would be cleared. But when I peered into the entrance of that stretch of the Metroparks (the crown jewel of the state the Ohio die-hards so loooove to tout) all I saw was clear pavement.
And today is really the nicest day we’ve seen since, what, November? I really wanted to put my hating aside for a day and just enjoy the sunshine.
But it was no more than a quarter mile into my journey that the completely clear trail suddenly was covered in three inches of snow.
Figuring it might clear up again just around the next bend, I pushed on.
But alas, the snow did not clear after that turn or the next one or the next one. And the patches of trail that were clear were either eroding away or were covered in dog poop.
After a noble 15 minutes, I gave up, turned around, and waded through the snow sand and poop back to my office … hating Ohio the whole way. Given that much of the path is in the shade, I imagine it will be June before the snow will all melt and new dirt can be put in place.
You know, I bet other states have equally lovely park systems that you can use for more than four months of the year.
